About the show

I'm Mackay Taggart, a producer at CFRB. For the next eight months, from February to October 2008, I'm going to be working in the West African country of Sierra Leone at a local African radio station as a "journalism trainer" with the Toronto based NGO Journalists for Human Rights. I'm going to be living in the regional city of Makeni in a part of the country that was all but destroyed during Sierra Leone's bloody civil war. My plan, internet access permitting, is to blog about my experiences working at a radio station that serves a community facing very different challenges then those that we face in Toronto.

At times it feels like a challenge to find two places in the world more different then Toronto and Sierra Leone, yet for a brief period last week news and politics in both locations ran oddly parallel.  The reason being, that last week both Toronto and Sierra Leone were hit by brief, but nevertheless crimpling transit strikes.
