About the show

Former Chief of Pediatrics at Trillium Health Centre, Dr. Mickey Lester has years of experience treating children and dealing with all aspects of pediatric medicine. A Consulting Pediatrician for the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Lester also serves as an assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. FERBERIZATION:
 
When ready to teach the child to sleep through the night then "Ferberization" is recommended. Start at six months but not earlier if the baby cries or wakes up crying after being put to sleep. Wait 20 minutes. Then go into the child's room. Do not talk or touch the child. Eyeball the child quickly to make sure that they are not in a compromised position (If standing in the crib, leave the child alone) - Then Leave. If the child has vomited, clean up and change silently and put the child back in the crib. Repeat the process adding 10 minutes - that is 30 minutes. Keep adding 10 minutes to the routine. Place one of your T-shirts in the crib as a snuggly. Your scent will help to pacify the child. Do this routine nightly. By three nights or earlier the baby will have learned that you will not be picking him/her up. Then the child will go back from a light sleep to a deeper one on their own because the child has nothing to gain by waking up. A lesson well taught.
