About the show

FRIDAY May 16th...

1PM - Victoria Day is this weekend so that means kids will probably act like idiots with fireworks.

130PM - A 13-year-old boy whose domineering father systematically brainwashed him into hating his mother can be flown against his will to a U.S. facility that deprograms children who suffer from parental alienation, an Ontario Superior Court judge has ruled.

2PM - There is still a "rampant" problem of driving schools either selling certificates to students who have not completed training or promising certificates to students they are not allowed to issue, says Brian Patterson president of the Ontario Safety League.

230PM - The death of a 23-yera-old B.C. student has raised the question of how loud is too loud when it comes to listening to iPods and other personal music players in public areas like street crossings.

Robert Baltovich responds to questions raised on the Motts over why he wasn't asking for compensation

Hi Carol,

For the past eighteen years, I have struggled to have my innocence acknowledged and on Tuesday, April 22ndthose efforts came to fruition; it was an overwhelming moment for me and one that I am still coming to terms with. But to be asked about compensation only minutes after being acquitted of murdering the woman I loved was, in my opinion, profoundly disrespectful to Liz's memory and to her family and for these and other reasons I did not feel it appropriate to address the issue. Regardless of one's view of the case or the issue of compensation, the fact remains that a beautiful, vibrant young woman that I loved was murdered, her family remains in grief, and after eighteen years I finally have the opportunity to grieve her in a way that was denied me eighteen years ago.

It is only natural that people would wonder about compensation given what I have endured and I do not begrudge them this as it is a legitimate thought. But for now, my focus is on getting answers to two fundamental questions: why was I imprisoned for a crime I did not commit; and who is responsible for Liz's murder. A judicial inquiry may bring us closer to answering those questions and this is what I have chosen to address until such time as we receive an answer one way or the other.

I would like to stress, however, that no one is more aware of how much I have been wronged by the system than I am. And though I would not begrudge anyone in my position the desire to be compensated, I simply feel it is an issue that can wait for another day. Perhaps some day in the future, when and if those that are responsible for the injustice I have suffered are made accountable for what has happened; or, when I have had more time to reflect on what has transpired over the last eighteen years, I will address the issue of compensation. For now, I've merely chosen to focus on other things and I hope people will respect this.

Sincerely,

Rob Baltovich
