Do Not Call List up and running

If your phone rings off the hook with telemarketers offering you a great deal on a timeshare in Florida or an unbeatable interest rate, today is your lucky day. It's the first time Canadians can add themselves to a national do not call list. You can add as many numbers as you like on-line or by phone.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has this report.

Companies have to register with the CRTC to have access to the list. Registration is free for them, but they will have to purchase a subscription to get access to the list for the area codes they intend to call.

Certain telemarketers are exempt such as registered charities, pollsters and political parties. These telemarketers must aslso register, but have free acess to the list.
