"Bring Omar Khadr back to Canada"

Listen to CFRB's Cheryl Camack 's Report.
Representatives for Prominent Canadian organizations gathered at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church on Bloor to issue a public plea to “Bring Omar Khadr back to Canada”.
Public rallies are scheduled across the country over the next few days to try to rally support for government intervention. In Toronto, the rally is set for July 26 in front of the U.S Consulate.
Skepticism surrounding U.S justice system has pushed organizations including the Canadian Peace Alliance, and Canadian Arab Federation to call on the government to bring Khadr home for a fair trial.
Omar Khadr, now 21, is scheduled to be tried under the US Military system in October.
“Khadr’s age at the time of capture means he should be tried as a child soldier involved in war crimes,” says spokesperson, Vicki Obedkoff for the United Church of Canada.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper continues to distance his government from any intervention.
Kadhr remains as the only Western national left at Guantanmo Bay.
