On the eve of the provincial budget, the feud continues between Ontario's finance minister and his federal counterpart.

Jim Flaherty called a news conference a day ahead of Tuesday's budget to give his two cents on what should be in it.

"Ontario has a golden opportunity to cut business taxes," Flaherty has repeatedly warned failure to do so could turn Ontario into a "have-not" province in need of equalization payments.

But earlier Dwight Duncan told reporters, "It's not about Jim Flaherty and me, it's about what's best for Ontario," Duncan added, "It's not about stunts, it's about important public policy decisions governments have to make.

"The people of Ontario rejected Flaherty's approach on two occasions,'' Duncan said, referring to the Liberals two election wins over the Conservatives in 2003 and again in 2007.

Duncan added, "It's about a balanced pragmatic approach to what we need."

"You're going to see a real emphasis on skills training and linking skills to jobs in the budget. We see that as part of the proper response to the challenges facing Ontario today.''
