Halloween: Not Just For Kids Anymore!

Sat, 2007-10-27 10:31.
Kids won't be the only ones taking to the streets next week looking for ghoulish treats...
Turns out more dog-owners are trying to include man's best friend in the fun!
Sales of Halloween costumes for your pooch are on the rise, so don't be surprised if you see more pirate pugs, hot-dog wiener dogs or ravishing retreivers out there.
E-Bay Canada's Erin Sufrin says Star Wars-inspired styles are must-have items for Fido this year, adding that they're seeing a lot of Darth Vader and Yoda dog costumes.
She says there is an endless array of ideas for your puppy's costume needs.
But with the fun, comes some words of advice from the Toronto Humane Society. Spokesman Lee Oliver says safety for your pet should be the top priority.
Oliver recommends costumes that don't drag on the ground and that aren't made of harmful plastics, in case a curious pet tries to eat its disguise.
He also suggests that you leave the dog at home instead of taking it out trick-or-treating. Oliver says the constant commotion could over-excite the animal.
