New Poll shows Liberals lead Tories
As the provincial election gets closer, the latest poll from Ipsos-Reid shows that the Liberals are holding onto a minority government.
This past week, the McGuinty Liberals have gained two points to 42 percent, and the Tory Conservatives have dropped two points to 25 percent. The NDP are holding steady at 16 percent voter support, with the Green Party trailing behind at 6 percent support across the province.
But these numbers don't have that much meaning, according to Ipsos-Reid Senior Vice President John Wright.
"We're in for a bit of a ride in the next month or so, as the campaign begin to develop its key messages, its advertising and its statements by the leaders. So what we're seeing right now is a bit of volatility."
Wright adds that the polls also show its likely going to be a tight race.
"Right now nobody is in majority territory. It's probably in minority territory, but when all the advertising in the campaign really gets underway in the next couple of weeks, those things could change."
In the GTA, the Liberals have dropped two points since last week, and the Tories gained two - outside of Toronto the~Grits have gone from 37 percent support to 43, and the Conservatives have dropped from 39 percent to 34 percent.
