About Dave Agar

Dave AgarDave began his broadcasting career as a Saturday night disc-jockey on Oshawa radio stations CKLB/CKQS in 1969. Back then the going rate for weekend announcers was $2-an-hour.

Dave's real passion was news so after 6 months in Oshawa he applied for a job in Niagara Falls, Ontario where he was born and raised. He was a newscaster, reporter, announcer, sportscaster, production operator and talk-show producer at CJRN-710.

4-years later Dave was offered a job as the first evening newscaster on Toronto radio station CKFM, now MIX-99.9, owned by Standard Broadcasting. After a year, Dave was promoted to morning news anchor and co-host of the public affairs show, Hour Toronto Magazine. He has been an employee of Astral Media since 1974. The first 15 years were at CKFM including 10 years as News Director. He became assistant News Director of CFRB 10-10 (across the hall from CKFM) in 1990, which included hosting the afternoon drive show from 4-7pm. In 1991 Dave was promoted to News Director of RB. In 1999 he decided that the combination of being the morning news anchor and the News Director was consuming too much of his energy and opted to do what he does best, on-air. During his early years at Astral Media, he had the honour of knowing and working with some of the legends of broadcasting including Gordon Sinclair, Jack Dennett, Bob Hesketh, Wally Crouter and Bill Stephenson.

Dave has two adult children and two grandchildren whom he visits in Niagara Falls at least twice-a-month.
