Amber Gero(CFRB News)- Pearson International Airport is shutting the doors of Terminal 2 for good.

The 34-year-old building, which was originally supposed to be used for cargo, will see its last passenger Monday night with the final flight heading out to Boston at 9:20p.m.

Terminal 2 was used for Canada-U.S. flights, but the building was aging and was unable to handle the increasing needs of the airport.

"It's being closed because it's no longer able to do what we need it to do.  There's no space to expand.  So we looked at the cost of revamping it versus the cost of new construction and we decided to go with the cost of new construction," said Scott Armstrong with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

CFRB News asked people at Pearson's Terminal 2 if they'll miss it.

"Yes I'm going to miss it.  It's really part of our heritage, part of our place.  But I also love new stuff so something new and modern would be great," said Donna.

"I'm not going to miss it at all.  It hasn't seen a lot of love for a long time so I think it's time to say goodbye," said Jared.

The new 800-million dollar Pier F will open it's doors Tuesday morning.  Among the features it boasts, are Canada's biggest duty-free store and the fastest moving walkway.

The GTAA says it hopes to recycle 98% of Terminal 2 with demolition set to begin in April.
