No Snow = Extra Cash for City

Shane Mercer (CFRB News) No snow means the city isn't spending all of it's annual snow removal budget.  The annual budget is about 62.5 million dollars and in 2006 the city was able to save 6-8 percent of that.  That works out to be between 5 and 6 million dollars.

Myles Currie is the manager of road operations with the city of Toronto.  He says the extra money will go into a winter reserve fund.  That's in case there are any major storms, and then the money would be used to cover some of the expenses.

Currie says most of tha savings came from the absence of street salters.  He says salt is the most expensive part of snow removal and because of the warm temperatures they haven't been used much.
