Ryan Bird (CFRB News) Michael Serba has died. The 25-year-old Toronto native had been in critical condition since Saturday morning following an altercation outside the Jane St. subway station.

Police say Serba had been at a nearby bar, when he decided to get money from a bank machine across the street. That's when he reported he had been "sucker-punched" by a stranger.

Police say Serba then returned to the bar to get his friends to help look for the man responsible and when he was crossing through an alley across from the subway station around 12:30 a.m, he was struck over the head.

Serba had just graduated from Norwich University in Vermont, where he played on the school's hockey team for four years and was a captain last year.

22-year-old Nicholas Crowdis, of no fixed address, will make his next court appearance on Monday, December 4th. That's when police expect his attempted murder charge to be upgraded to 2nd-degree murder.
