(John Elston, CFRB News) TTC vice-chair Adam Giambrone claims the TTC is pulling a bus off the road, on average, almost every day, because of the potential for becoming unsafe.

Deputy general manager Bob Boutilier confirms there's only so much that can be done to keep the oldest busses running.  The oldest GMC busses are 18.  GMCs are being rebuilt so they can remain roadworthy until they are 25.   Orion buses are newer but aren't expected to last beyond 18 years.

Busses have to pass two provincial safety inspections a year.  Boutilier says if a  frame cracks, fumes can enter the passenger area.

One long-time driver told CFRB News that if one bus a day breaks down, that's not bad.
