Subway Extension Work Starts Next Year

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the Spadina subway line to York University and into York Region is expected to take place in late September. But the actual work of digging won't start until late next year. That's about a year later than TTC officials had hoped. TTC spokesman Brad Ross says "people will start to see some real big holes in the ground in about 18 months."
$1-billion in funding for the project had been promised previously by the federal and Ontario governments. It was not part of Thursday's infrastructure deal in which Ottawa promised to spend $6.3-billion and Ontario $3-billion over the next six years.
