Snow Banks Reach New Heights

Where do you put it all? That was the question on the minds of many Toronto residents on Wednesday morning. With the snow continuing to fall over recent days, many people are running out of space to shovel the white stuff.

To see some of the snowbanks around Toronto, it's not hard to believe that we've "unofficially" broken the snowfall record for the month of February.

The previous record was set back in 1950. In February of that year, Toronto got 66.6 centimetres of snow. Now in February of 2008, not even half way through the month, we're at 67 centimetres, 11 of that from Tuesday's storm.

Meanwhile, Toronto Transportation Services says it could take another two weeks before some parts of the city start seeing some major snow removal operations underway on their streets. Toronto's older neighbourhoods, which depend on street parking, will likely be serviced first, with other neighbourhoods having to wait a while.
