A UN official in the Gaza Strip says Israeli forces have fired on a truck on a UN aid mission and killed the driver.

Joe Pennachetti has been named Toronto's new city manager, replacing Shirley Hoy. Mayor David Miller recommended Pennachetti for the job this summer, at the same time Hoy announced her resignation. Miller maintains because Pennachetti was Hoy's deputy city manager, he knows the issues surrounding the city better than anyone.

But while city council approved Pennachetti's appointment by the mayor by a vote of 39-3 - and believe he is a good choice for the job - many are not happy with the lack of selection process.

Most on council say they felt their hands were tied, with some questioning the amount of power the Mayor has.
