Fall statement

Fall statement

In the wake of  U.S. banking crisis, lost manufacturing jobs, and the high cost of oil Ontario's economy is taking a hit.   But as for how bad things really are, we'll get a better sense next month.   Dwight Duncan will deliver a fall economic statement on the province's finances on October 22.

Listen to Lisa Naccarato's report on the Fall Economic Statement

Estimates on growth in Ontario's economy are down almost a full percent from the spring budget's forecast, throwing the government's numbers off,  Dalton McGuinty has already said the province may have to tighten it's belt, but the finance minister Duncan doesn't think he'll be forced to cut programs.

"My view is the kinds of adjustments, if we have to make them, would be of a nature that wouldn't be necessarily directly felt by families or individuals,  but we'll see."

Duncan says he won't have accurate numbers until closer to his October 22 statement.
