Amber Gero's report on school zone speeder
Of the first 5,300 people charged by the OPP under Ontario's street racing law, only about 300 were female.  But Thursday here in Toronto, where more than 500 such charges have been laid, during the busy morning rush, a woman was stopped and charged for street racing.

It was just after 8:30 a.m. when a Volvo on registered 101 kph in a 50 zone on Mount Pleasant Road near Elm Street. That's near Branksome Hall private school.

Any speed that exceeds the limit by 50 is considered street racing.

Police charged a woman and impounded her car for a week. Her license is also suspended for a week.

Police Superintendent Early Witty says "this type of behaviour from a driver falls somewhere between astounding and mind-boggling. How any person can endanger the lives of themselves and others by driving in such a manner during rush hour, in a school zone and in the urban traffic environment that is Toronto, defies all logic."
