Katie Franzios reports on the class action suit against car companies.

A dollar class action lawsuit has been launched against five automakers because of an air-conditioning tax that lawyers are classifying as an extra charge.

This $100 dollars is added on to the price of any new vehicle in Canada with air-conditioning, whether it's purchased or leased. It's called the federal excise tax on air conditioners, but lawyers say only manufacturers have to pay this tax, not those buying the cars. They say the dealers are just calling this extra 100 dollars a tax to mask a higher sticker price.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has more.

The Canadian subsidieries of Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota and Nissan are being targeted.

The lawsuit was filed by several people who bought or leased a new vehicle directly from one of these dealers. Every car-buyer in Canada is eligible to take part.
