Student Collapses

Student Collapses

Some drama on the first day of school for Dalton McGuinty.
The premier was at St Mary's Catholic Secondary School in  Pickering  announcing new high skills programs when the event was cut short by the collapse of a student.

Dozens of teachers, students and reporters packed into the school's shop area to listen to the premier's announcement on new high skills majors in areas like community safety and emergency services.

Just a few minutes later emergencies services were called to the school after a grade 11 student listening to the announcement passed out onto the shop floor.

The teen may have hit his head on the concrete floor, paramedics arrived within a few minutes to take him hospital.  Afterwards Dalton McGuinty got an update on the teen's condition.

"His vital signs are good, he's stable, the medical staff are taking the usual precautions but it looks good."

No word on why the teen collapsed, but it may have been the heat and fumes in the shop area.
