Katie Franzios reports on gas prices and public transit.

More and more Canadians are choosing public transit as they look for alternatives to driving because of rising gas prices. This, according to a survey released by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Canadian Urban Transit Association.

20 per cent of respondents said they had already switched to public transit because of the higher gas prices and many others say better transit performance standards would likely convince them to make the shift.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has more.

Sixty-five per cent said they could be motivated to use public transit if travel times were quicker while 64 per cent cited shorter waiting times as a potentially motivating factor.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities president Jean Perrault says responses in the survey suggest transit use could triple because of the higher gas prices.

Eleven-hundred Canadians were surveyed.
