Tamara Baluja's report on panhandling advertisement
An ad agency hired by the radio station paid some panhandlers to carry an ad that says "should panhandling be illegal? We need to talk" followed by the CFRB logo.
Some panhandlers thought it very odd that an ad agency would expect them to hold a sign asking if panhandling should be illegal. But most were not against taking the job.
Listen to some panhandlers' opinions. The city is already investing millions to help homeless people of the streets, but some people are such ad campaigns might actually encourage sign-bearers to panhandle.
Listen to Tamara Baluja's report. Zig Advertising has only hired 3 people to hold the signs up - and says it pays them more than what they would earn from a day of begging.
Andy Macaulay, President of Zig Advertising says the intention is to get people to think about the bigger issues, such as poverty in Toronto. But the real question is if a sign is going to make people think anymore than about the issue MORE than seeing the actual panhandlers.
