The TTC and EMS have teamed up for a 19-week pilot project to help improve subway delays.

The project, launched on Monday will have paramedics stationed at the Yonge/Bloor subway station during rush hours (6:30 am- 9am, and 2pm-6pm).

The hope is that having EMS within the system will result in faster response-time to customer medical emergencies, and ease subway delays.

Last year the subway system experienced almost 3 000 minutes in delays resulting from over 1200 incidents of customer illness or injury.

“Delays are caused when someone has a medical emergency and we have to contact EMS, get an ambulance which takes about 8-10 minutes,” says TTC Chair Adam Giambrone.

The project will run until January 3, 2009.
