Katie Franzios reports on calls for a school closure moratorium.

Both parents and the NDP are calling for the McGuinty Liberals to put  a moratorium on  school closures. This, with 58 schools set to shut their doors at the end of the school year and 300 more on the chopping block.

NDP education critic Rosario Marchese says low enrolment and lack of money shouldn't be the only factors when deciding on whether to close a school. He says they should be looking at how the school plays a part in the community.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has this report.

Liberal education minister Kathleen Wynne says a number of factors are considered when closing a school including programs offered to kids, maintenance costs and impact on the community.

She says a moratorium isn't feasible because it will tie the hands of school boards.

A report on enrollment is expected to come down in December and Marchese is asking the government to wait to make any decisions on school closings then.
