5 cases of deaths across the country are now associated with the listeriosis bacteria - although the Public Health of Agency of Canada is confirming only 4 ---- 3 in Ontario and 1 in British Columbia.

The Federal Public Health Agency is working with local health authorities in Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and British Columbia to investigate the listeriosis outbreak. 16 cases have been confirmed in Ontario, with another 14 under investigation.


As of now there are 21 confirmed cases of outbreak in the four provinces, another 30 are under investigation. Those additional cases are being genetically fingerprinted to see if they are part of the same outbreak strain.

Ready-to-eat meat products, such as those recalled from Maple Leaf Foods, are being investigated as a possible source for the outbreak. But so far, there is still no definitive link between the meat and the listeriosis outbreak.Canadian public health officials are expected to sometime this weekend about a possible connection between the recalled meat from Maple Leaf Foods and the listeriosis outbreak.
