Katie Franzios reports on Toronto health officials trying to tackle the listeriosis outbreak in the city.

Health officials in Ottawa are confirming a third death from listeriosis, a dangerous bacterial infection.

Two elderly women - one in Waterloo and the other in Hamilton - have also died. This, as Canada handles an outbreak of the illness.

Food safety officials are trying to find a connection between the now 17 confirmed cases across Canada and the recall of 23 Maple Leaf products packaged at its Toronto plant.

In Toronto, a total of eight listeriosis cases are associated with the outbreak. Three cases have been confirmed, four are probably linked and one is suspected to be.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has the details.

The illness is known to cause nausea, fever, headaches and neck stiffness with those most susceptible the elderly, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.

Meanwhile, Maple Leaf says it's doing everything it can to clean up its Toronto plant. And that's proving costly - the clean-up and recall together may cost the company around $4 million, twice the estimated amount.
