Ontario's chief medical officer of health is now investigating 30 cases of listeriosis, one more than yesterday. 13 are confirmed cases, the other 17 are probable or suspect. Included in the confirmed cases, is one death...that of an elderly woman from Hamilton, but the listeriosis death toll could rise.

Health officials are investigating additional deaths but they can't say if they're linked to this specific listeriosis outbreak. Chief medical officer Dr David Williams says right now they are listed as probable or suspect cases and could be ruled out.
"Let's wait until we get the data through, until all the investigations by the health unit and the laboratory are complete."
In addition to the one death, 7 people are currently being hospitalized.
As for why it took several weeks for the medical officer to a issue a public warning after the first case was reported, Dr Williams told reporters his office wanted to confirm that it was an actual outbreak and identify a possible source before "causing panic".
