More than 20 ready to eat meats are being recalled as a precaution.

Grocery stores have removed the items from their shelves and fast food places such as McDonalds and Mr Sub have stopped selling certain meals as a precaution.

Of the 17 known cases, 13 are in this province.

Toronto public health confirms five cases of listeriosis, most in nursing or retirement homes and hospitals. Two were in one home.

Four more cases may be tied to the outbreak after testing and many others could be discovered as the symptoms: high fever, severe headache  and neck stiffness appear.
