Dalton McGuinty is hoping to be on a plane bound for Beijing next month, but he needs Steven Harper's permission first.
Listen to Lisa Naccarato's report on Toronto's bid for the Pan-Am games
The premier wants to attend the Olympics to promote Toronto and the GTA's bid for the 2015 Pan-Am games.
"I am ready and raring to go. I think it's a great opportunity for Ontarians, among other things it will give us the chance to put in place some recreational sports infrastructure...so it's time for the feds to make up its mind."
It's estimated the games will cost about 1.8 billion dollars to host, the province is looking to the federal government to chip in about 600 million.
So far the prime minister hasn't made a decision yet on the proposal and McGuinty says he can't lobby IOC members who will make the decision on the Pan Am games location until Ottawa gives Ontario the okay.
"We need their final approval, I know that they are actively considering it, we've spent a couple months preparing a proposal. They've got to consider that and get back to us."
