Diabetes Strategy

Some welcomed news today for Ontarians living with diabetes.   The province has launched a  4 year, 741 million dollar strategy to help prevent, manage and treat the disease.

The new plan will provide people living with diabetes with electronic access to information on how to manage their condition and help health care providers easily check patient records, diagnostic information and send out patient alerts.

"The end result will be faster diagnosis and faster treatment for Ontarians living with diabetes."

Health minister David Caplan says the province will also provide funding for expensive insulin pumps for over 13 hundred adults with type 1 diabetes and expand access to bariatric surgeries, a kind of gastric bypass procedure that helps those severely obese limit their food intake.
