Lori Paris reports on Dalton McGuinty's response to the Fantino wiretap issue
Ontario's premier is ignoring calls for the suspension or resignation of the province's top cop.

Listen to Lori Paris' Report.

Speaking at a Vaughan manufacturing plant, Dalton McGuinty avoided speaking directly about the wiretap transcripts between OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino and Mohawk protestor Shawn Brant, but did make it clear that he is standing behind the commissioner.

"Commissioner Fantino continues to have my full confidence. He has worked long and hard under very trying circumstances for a long time now, and he has my support."

McGuinty calls Fantino a good leader for the OPP and dismissed calls for the commissioner's resignation or suspension.

"It's really easy for us, in this rarefied atmosphere, far removed from the heat of the moment, to pass judgement on Commissioner Fantino. Pretty easy to do.  But I think the fair thing to do, is to allow this court proceeding to continue, and await the outcome of that.  It's easy to second guess our police from a distance, but my experience with Commissioner Fantino is that he's worked long and hard, and he's been very determined to be fair in his approach to all the parties."
