Chicago Mayor Richard Daley who is in Toronto for the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities initiative conference says he is impressed with the Great Lakes Pact. Ontario signed the Great Lakes pact meaning the provincial government won't make any decisions about the Great lakes without consulting municipal governments first.

 "This is a far better system of lobbying than in the US", Daley said. Daley says he hopes to get a similar system in the States as well.

Mayors from both the US and Canada are calling on their federal governments to re-invest in cities to advance the Great Lakes protection. Chicago Mayor Richard Daley spoke of the efforts his city will be making.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says if Chicago gets the 2016 Olympics bid, then tourists will flood into all parts of the Great Lakes. He says people will be surprised when they come here. Daley says he has also been greatly impressed by the green initiatives he has seen in Toronto and will try to implement them in Chicago.
