Cheryl Camack Reports: Taxi Fare Hike

Taxi fares have been hiked to tackle the increasing gas prices. With pump prices hovering around the 1.30/litre mark, Cab drivers have been feeling the pain.

“It’s a sigh of relief, I’m very happy,” said Taraq, a Toronto Cab Driver.

City Hall has approved the hike, and now just to get in, prices have jumped from $3 to $4. Fares have increased anywhere from 10-17% (depending on the length of the ride).

“I don’t agree with it, but with the gas prices and everything going up what can you do,” says Dan a frequent Cab-rider.

To help off-set gas usage, some drivers have suggested extra cab stands be installed around the city, giving them a place to park and deterring gas guzzling while cruising.
