A new policy to bolster the integrity of city hall is on the table at this week's council meeting. A proposed city councillor expense account policy hopes to keep the spending of taxpayers money down but not all councillors are expected to approve.

CFRB's Katie Franzios has the details.

That will be one of the hot-button topics at council, along with the sale of Toronto Hydro Telecom and the environmental assessment for levelling the Gardiner Expressway.

With costs of leveling the Gardiner estimated at upwards of $300 million some city councillors are worried the price could skyrocket to close a billion.

"Over the next 5-6 years we could be spending $50 million for upkeep of that portion of the Gardiner," Mayor David Miller said, referring to the portion of the expressway between the Don Valley Parkway and Jarvis St.

That, along with traffic woes during the construction and in the end result of a waterfront boulevard, mean a few of those at city hall are not convinced this is the best idea.
