Televsions and computers could cost you a bit more in Ontario.
Environment Minister John Gerretson will sign a regulation today that slaps new recycling fees on some electronics. The fees will be paid by manufacturers and importers, and those fees would likely be passed on to consumers.
The fees range from 32 cents for a mouse or keyboard and up to about ten dollars for a TV and 13 dollars for a desktop computer. They'll take effect next April, with the money going towards collecting and recycling products from new drop-off points to be located across the province.
The province's waste diversion agency is also working on extending recycling programs for more electronics including phones, pagers, cameras and radios.
