A 63-year-old man's life was saved when four staff members at Variety Village responded with a defibrillator. Daniel Terbenche, who suffered a cardiac arrest back in January, met the four men who were honoured for their efforts today.

Dave Henderson, Shane Risto, Joseph Rosgnen and Jason Williams were all honoured with Mikey medals from Mikey Network, who donated the defibrillators at Variety Village.

After an employee noticed Daniel Terbenche was unconscious, a code red was issued and for staff members who were trained to use a defibrillator responded. Shane Risto says the defibrillator was easy to use. But Dave Henderson says its just part of the job, and he doesn't feel like a hero.

Now these defibrillators are not cheap. Including training, each one costs $2500. But Hugh Heron, CEO of Mikey Network says that's not expensive when you talk about saving someone's life.

Toronto EMS Chief Bruce Farr says as good as EMS response times are, a defibrillator is something more public places should invest in.

Each year, over 6500 people in Ontario due if sudden cardiac arrests - incidents, which could be potentially avoided if a defibrillator, was at hand.
