Hard to believe....but Barack Obama will be sworn in as the President of the United States in a mere 2 weeks from today. And there is so much to do...so much on his agenda...

So now is the perfect time to be a little frivolous...

There's a move afoot to come up with a suggested playlist for the new President's ipod..A list that would help him better understand his neighbours to the north.

So what would you include on a Canadian Song playlist for Barack Obama?

For what it's worth...here's my top fifteen list, (in no particular order):

* Stompin' Tom Conors version of "I've Been Everywhere"
* Frank Sinatra's "I'll Never Smile Again" (written by Ruth Lowe)
* Stan Rogers' "Northwest Passage"
* The old CBC "Hockey Night in Canada" Theme, (now owned and under used by TSN!)
* Moe Kauffman's "Swingin' Shepherd Blues"
* Marc Jordan's "Tears of Hercules"
* Lighthouse's "One Fine Morning"
* David Foster's "Calgary Winter Olympics Theme"
* Ian and Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds"
* Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now"
* Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind"
* BTO's "Takin' Care of Business"
* Maynard Ferguson's version of "Gonna Fly Now!"
* Murray McLauchlan's "Down By The Henry Moore"
* KOS's "Sunday Morning"

What would you add??

a must have for Obama's ipod is "I AM NOT AMERICAN" by The Arrogant Worms. Heck, anything by the Worms is worth listening to.

Definitely add this song...

Hi Dave T... I would say to add "50 Mission Cap" from the Tragically Hip to President Obama's ipod neighbors to the north list.

Um, are you trying to get us bombed?

Whomever "Anonymous" is that suggested "You're having my baby--Paul Anka", if you send that over to Obama for his iPod, I bet he'll jump-up and say "Looks like we've found WMD's in Canada, let's go boys!"

I think the perfect song for Obama would be "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochran. The words say it all "There ain't no load that I can't hold. Road is rough this I know...etc.

Another Ian Tyson song

I would add the new My Cherry Coloured Rose to this list as a song about Canadian Hockey commentator Don Cherry ...its a very good song written by a Torontonian Jay aymar and performed by Canadian Icon Ian Tyson .... a perfect song to add ...

Got a couple of other "adds".. Fred Ketchen wants us to include "Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellen Bogen by the Sea" - (performed by The Four Lads). That'll play havoc with the spell check!! ...and got a great suggestion by a listener last week while I was keeping Bill Carroll's chair warm...She wants us to include Bob Reid's "Highway of Heroes".

How about Lightfoot's Railroad Trilogy ? I also agree with Kowch that The Edmund Fitzgerald should be there. And, how about Paul Anka's My Way - even 'tho it was Sinatra's tune ?
